Raimi’s dissatisfaction is evident throughout Spider-Man 3. When Mary Jane is kidnapped for the third time in the series, the movie’s tiredness is palpable, and a lot of this is due to the inclusion of one character: Venom. Spider-Man 3 is filled with many subplots and misunderstandings, and, buckling under their weight, it plods from one sequence to the next. It’s a shame that this deftness is rarely seen elsewhere in the film.
